This course examines trends and issues within the correctional system in Canada. It explores the historical and contemporary context of correctional practices and how such practices have perpetuated well into the twenty-first century. Topics include punishment, human rights, pre-trial detention, race, drugs, mental health, the role of correctional officers, and parole and release from prison. Additional special topics may include wrongful convictions, prison abolition, or prison tourism.
