
A "somnicast" is a program designed to put you to sleep: subjects interesting to only a few, read to you in a monotone, set to soothing, repetitive music tracks accompanied by either white, pink, or brown noise that assist in the masking of extraneous noises. The vocal track is recorded at a volume lower than usual. This has the effect of forcing the brain to struggle to listen, the thought being the more you try to stay awake the faster you will fall asleep.
